A senior Nokia India official said that India is going to set the record for the fastest 5G service in the world and it is going to get the biggest success of the next generation telecom service with the support of the government.
Speaking at an event organized by the Foreign Correspondents Club on Friday evening, Amit Marwah, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Nokia India, without naming China, expressed concern over ‘intrusion tools’ in the telecom sector from neighboring countries.
“We (India) are not late, we are at the right time. The rest of the country has where to develop the ecosystem as compared to other countries. We have a 5G-ready ecosystem. We have 10 per cent There are smartphones. Which are ready for 5G. India is going to see the fastest rollout of 5G, which will be at least three times faster than 4G.”
5G services will progressively cover the entire country over the next few years – Jio has promised to do so by December 2023 and Bharti Airtel by March 2024.
Marwah said that with the help of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, telecom manufacturing in India is getting stronger.
“We were part of PLI 1.0. We were one of the only companies that met and exceeded our target of PLI 1.0. We dropped that plan and dropped the one-year incentive because PLI 2.0 was even more interesting. The volume and scale is growing so much in India that you let go for a year. We reapplied for PLI f2.0 and today we are part of PLI 2.0 which means we invest more are adding more lines and adding more products,” he said.
The PLI scheme offers incentives of up to 20 times on incremental sales of telecom gears made in India. The government has added additional incentives to design products in India in the second edition of the PLI scheme.
Marwah said that manufacturing in India is on a very positive note in all sectors, but definitely in telecom.
“The only challenge right now is the availability of fabs that are semiconductors. 60-80 percent of what we make requires semiconductors. That is an area where we still need to work. Marwah said, from neighboring countries who need to be a little more careful and stop customs duties.
YGSC Kishor Babu, Deputy Director General (Policy), Department of Telecom, said India is expected to have a greater diversity of 5G adoption and applications as compared to other countries.
“However, the vast majority of use cases around the world remind us that we may have to innovate to meet most of the requirements in the coming months and years,” Babu said.
Jagdish Mitra, Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Development, Tech Mahindra said that 5G is the biggest opportunity ever in technology, for India which we commonly refer to as Bharat and Bharat.
Mitra said, “We have 62 per cent workforce in the agriculture sector, and 5G offers us a huge opportunity to convert this into the most profitable segment. We can enable higher yields by producing better networks and delivering products to farmers. Can.” ,
Telecom Sector Skill Council, CEO, Arvind Bali said that there is a need to re-skill and upskill around 25 lakh people in the telecom sector over the next few years as the transition from 4G to 5G is taking place.
“We need at least one lakh technicians and engineers over the next few years specially trained on 5G courses for new job requirements and we are setting up centers of excellence and training labs with the help of TSSC ” industry. 5G is going to open up huge requirements for a talented workforce and we are training the youth in new age technologies,” said Bali.
He said that TSSC is also developing all the courses and digital content to train the people to meet the requirement of the industry.
