Another big tech giant may soon start laying off thousands of employees. Alphabet’s Google may soon lay off 10,000 employees due to mounting pressure on the company.
A report in The Information claims that Google managers have been asked to analyze and rank ‘underperforming’ employees. The company is reportedly ready to let go of 6 per cent of its workforce. There is an account of 10,000 people in this. Google will use a ranking system and the lowest ranked employees will be fired from the company.
Google has seen a huge increase in hiring in the last quarter. Experts have been warning Google about its increased workforce as well as pay. Billionaire activist investor, Christopher Hahn has claimed that Google employees are paid much more than the rest of the industry. He claimed that the recruitment was more than the actual requirement of the company.
Google had earlier announced that it would slow down the hiring process in the fourth quarter of the year. However, the economy has pushed the otherwise ’employee-friendly’ company into a wave of layoffs, roughly three times the size typically expected from Google.
