‘Had an offer from Amazon, but chose TCS’: Tata Consultancy Services delays onboarding

Freshers and other new recruits are accusing TCS, India’s largest IT services company, of delaying their onboarding by up to eight months.

A new recruit waiting for an offer letter in TCS told Business Today, “I received the offer letter from TCS for the post of Assistant System Engineer – Trainee on 5th April. Many of these job contenders are connected with each other through social media platforms. Business Today accessed one such group on Telegram, which has around 500 members.

Some of them claimed that despite offers from other companies, they chose to work with TCS but were waiting for the joining date for the past several months.

A new recruiter said, “I had an offer from Amazon, but I chose to work for TCS because of its employee-friendly image, but they haven’t given me a joining date since last six months.”

When job contenders write to TCS, the company replies that joining dates will be given as per the business requirements of TCS.

“Your joining letter will be re-issued based on TCS business requirements. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your understanding. We look forward to having you join TCS,” company’s response to the new recruit. She reads

Job contenders also allege that the company is actively recruiting across college campuses despite not onboarding a significant portion of freshers from previous batches.

“TCS is still recruiting freshers from my college and many other colleges. I find it a bit ironic as there are many of us waiting to join, then why are they adding more people if they have There’s no work,” said a new recruit.

Business Today had earlier reported that companies including Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, Accenture, Mphasis, Mindtree, Deloitte and others are delaying the onboarding of freshers. These companies say that the joining date will be given to the employees according to the need of the business.

Some of these companies like Wipro and Tech Mahindra have even withdrawn offers made to freshers, but new recruiters at TCS are hopeful that the company will keep its promise.

“We have faith in TCS, they will not withdraw the offer letter as some companies have done due to late onboarding. So we are waiting for their joining date. I only want to work in TCS.” Fresher, who is waiting for a date to join the company, told Business Today.

Another job aspirant said, “We only want clarity on joining date, we only want to join TCS. We are only asking for timeline for joining date.”

Business Today has contacted TCS for its response. A company spokesperson said all offer letters would be honoured.
“As always, TCS will honor all offers made as part of our campus hiring,” the spokesperson said.

The TCS spokesperson also said that the new recruitments will be done in a phased manner.

“This has been a normal year for TCS in terms of intern induction and all our on-boarded interns are being hired as per our staffing plans since Q1 FY23 onwards,” the spokesperson said.
