Total household spending increased by 56 percent, while 46 percent increased consumption of essential products. The report noted that consumption of discretionary products increased by 8 percent, while consumption of health-related items increased by 42 percent. “Expenditure on health products registered a growth of 3 per cent over the previous month, but the sentiment for essential consumption remained the same as last month,” the report said.

“Expenditure on non-essential and discretionary products such as ACs, cars and refrigerators increased for 8 per cent of households, showing a decrease of 3 per cent from the previous month,” the report said. Health expenditure has been the highest in the last three months, especially because of the onset of winter. It added that the less they spend on healthcare items, the better the perception.

The movement of 6 percent families increased. About 34 percent said they see in-store promotional offers, and 50 percent of those said they base their purchasing decisions on in-store promotional offers.

When it comes to media and entertainment, the popular choice for music remains YouTube (39 percent), while TV is the second favorite (18 percent), followed by radio (4 percent). 35 per cent said they still read newspapers daily.

Twenty-six percent said they would watch the ongoing FIFA World Cup, of which 58 percent would watch it on TV and 27 percent on their mobile. Seventeen percent said they would watch major matches, while 9 percent said they would watch all matches.

Fifteen per cent said they prefer watching Amitabh Bachchan’s films, making him the most popular actor, followed by Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Allu Arjun and Shah Rukh Khan. While 25 per cent think Virat Kohli is India’s greatest personality in the men’s section, 11 per cent think it is PV Sindhu for the women’s section.

Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Mithali Raj and PT Usha are considered role models in the field of sports, cinema, arts.

When it comes to travel, 21 per cent said they prefer to travel within India, while 2 per cent plan to travel internationally. Cost is the most important factor for most (23 percent), followed by season and destination at 17 percent each.
