Delhi MCD Election 2022: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy CM Manish Sisodia have appealed to the people to vote for a corruption-free government in the city. Voting is currently underway for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). In a tweet, Kejriwal urged voters not to vote for parties involved in corruption and hooliganism. Sisodia said that the BJP has failed during the 15-year rule of the MCD.
The BJP, AAP and Congress are vying with each other to rule the city, which has been with the saffron party for the last 15 years. Till now the contest was bipolar between Congress and BJP. However, this time AAP’s entry has made the contest triangular. Issues that dominated the political campaign included corruption, health infrastructure and sanitation.
Voting for the civic body is underway amid tight security with around 40,000 Delhi Police officers, 20,000 home guards, and 108 CAPF and SAP companies to ensure peaceful polling. All government schools in Delhi remained closed on Saturday due to the elections. MCD schools will also remain closed on December 5, a day after the elections.
