Uddhav says Governor Koshyari is a ‘parcel sent to Maharashtra via Amazon by Centre’

Uddhav Thackeray said that the central government should take back this (Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari) parcel and send it somewhere. The Governor made these comments on Saturday at a function where Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and NCP leader Sharad Pawar were present. “Earlier, when you were asked who was your icon, the answers used to be Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose and Mahatma Gandhi. You don’t need to look anywhere else in Maharashtra (as) there are so many icons here. While Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the icon of yesteryear, now it is BR Ambedkar and Nitin Gadkari,” Koshyari said on Saturday.

Opposition parties went berserk after Koshyari’s remarks. Shiv Sena and NCP led by Uddhav Thackeray demanded the resignation of Maharashtra Governor.

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole said the party and people in the state “will not tolerate the disrespect of social reformers”.

The National Congress Party has also said that a reward of one lakh rupees will be given to the person who tears the dhoti of Governor Koshyari. NCP leader Ajit Pawar said that the Governor should resign immediately. The Raj Thackeray-led MNS also pulled up Koshyari over his remarks on Shivaji.

BJP’s stand

Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis clarified the issue, saying that Koshyari’s statement has been “misconstrued and interpreted”.

“As long as there is sun and moon, the symbol of Maharashtra will be Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and he is our hero. There is no doubt about Shivaji Maharaj in anyone’s heart and even in the heart of a Governor. His statements make many sense Even the governor has a view of what we hold,” Fadnavis said.
